Your thoughts on him are about what I expected. Most of the criticism of his character is along those lines.

My thoughts on the prank are different, but it's probably just my ficcish desire to make it deeper and more complex than it really was. ;) I got into the whole psychology of it in one of my fics, figuring that was the best way to represent Sirius as I prefer to interpret him.
