I have a secret...

...I'm a foodie.

Ok, so it's not that sort of secret. Still, it's not something I blog about very often. But that's more a result of omission than a lack of interest. I've never had the energy to have a whole blog dedicated to food.

But since I don't really know what to do here at Dreamwidth (and because folks here already read my relatively content-free...er, content over at LJ), I thought I would do something a little different over here.

To that end, here we go. First foodie post evah!

Over Valentine's Day, I baked Red Velvet Cupcakes for the very first time. It happens to be one of my favorite cake flavors, but I've never actually tried to make one myself. Cupcakes seemed relatively hassle-free (relative to a layer cake), and this time, I decided to make it doubly fun by letting The Kid (all of 14 months at the time) put the sprinkles on at the end. (It WAS doubly fun, in case you're wondering...until I had to clean it all up).

Here are a couple of pictures:

I even have a recipe and all, for those with interest in that sort of thing! :D

The cupcakes look lovely. I made red velvet cake once. It required a whole bottle of red food coloring. I almost think that's where the distinct flavor comes from.

And it's ironic that I have a "triple coconut" cupcake sitting here on my desk, waiting to be eaten at teatime, that I picked up at a cupcake shop on my way home this afternoon. At $3 for a normal-sized cupcake, it had better be good....

But I've got a technical question. This post popped up on my LJ Friends page, but you said you were posting it on Dreamwidth. So how did I get it? I'm not even sure what Dreamwidth IS!

The recipe I used called for two entire bottles of red food coloring. It made for very pretty batter, but omg, so messy.

Dreamwidth is an LJ clone service, with slightly better..er, service. Originally, I only posted this there, and I wanted to try out the "crosspost to LJ" function, so I did it with this post.

So yeah, you're not hallucinating or anything. This really IS on LJ. Heh.
