As you say, not all of us. Some of us have been very supportive of fanon (R/S) and canon (R/T). :)
no subject
And yes, you've been lovely and supportive of R/T, and I love you more for it. Thank you.
Did I ever tell you about the R/S fan who PM'd me (me, who at the time had written exactly one R/T fic) to tell me that R/T was gross and how dare I consider even writing Lupin in a het ship? That's when I realized there really were a lot of wingnuts in the HP fandom, lol.

I think that PMing as you've described is rude and I'm sorry that you were on the receiving end of that -- knowing incidents like that exist are what drive me out of fandom. There is enough in fandom that if one thing is not for you, there is something that is. I think people go looking to stir up trouble, and to that end, I'd reiterate that wasn't my intent here in your thread, which I hope you always know is true for me when we interact.
I genuinely find your R/T one of the best I've read, discovering you first in at meta challenge in 2007 and I'd read yours still, if I still read in (any) fandom.

You never have to worry about me taking things negatively, or worrying about trouble being stirred up. If I thought you were really being negative, I probably just wouldn't engage...you know?
I find there's a lot of negativity in fandom generally, and it's worse in very big fandoms like HP and LotR. Long ago, I gave up on ever finding more than 3-4 people (you know who you are) that saw LotR as I did, and that's partly what motivated my semi-withdrawal from that fandom.
And well, there were too many BNFs, and I wasn't one of them, lol.

Fandom -- like anything -- is what a person chooses to make of it and so many people involved seem to suffer and be mad doing it and extend that vindictiveness onto others. Why? (rhetorical)

I don't think I have enough to say about R/T to justify something of that length/quality. Honestly, even just writing 1000 words is HARD for me. I have no idea how
At one time, I did have plans to write a longer fic about Lupin, and what he was up to shortly before PoA and immediately after. But I had this epiphany that nobody was really interested in my HP fic, and those stories were better just being run like little movies in my head.
(Not fishing for compliments, just reflecting...)
Fwiw, I am writing a massively long fic in the RH fandom, but I'm at 70K words, and I started it nearly two years ago, so you can imagine how old I'll be before it's finished. ;)

Oi! I'm somebody (I know what you mean, though; I probably ought to have cheerleaded louder for you, anyway, and have let you know I was enthusiastically reading your R/T.)
I am writing a massively long fic in the RH fandom
I know, which is why I also know you have it in you to do if, as you say, you have a story to tell. (I read your LoTR & have read your RH & your ofic, and with that kind of reading record, if you're still around eljay when you finish your RH novel, chances are it'll fall into my lap as well. :))

I pick it up at least once a week, but the words just don't come.

I have no idea how I got this far behind, but it started to happen when I had a kid. I'm sure there's some connection, lol.

Which is why I haven't been reading. That logic there, that's vacuum-wrapped, that's how tight it is.

It's an ongoing effort, and whatever I've written so far has been posted publicly. (I used to post unedited beta chapters, but now only my beta-ed stuff goes up here).
