I've heard of Snape/Hermoine, but I don't get it either. And I would so ship Malfoy/Hermoine.
Will Scarlett, huh? The mind reels. ;)

This is, in fact, fandom's best kept secret. ;)

RH eats so much of my brain (I should say Guy-and RA) eat so much of my brain I haven't thought of anything else. But once they let go a little bit, I'm up for exploring other things.
no subject
That's one of the things I love about the RH fandom. We may have some (very minor) issues now and then, but overall, everyone gets along. There are no ship wars, there's surprisingly little wank, and there are no obvious BNFs. This makes me happy. :)
no subject
I have seen an inordinate amount of slash directed at HP, and sometimes that just weirds me out. Not like we don't have any, but I still think of those kids as kids, you know?
no subject
I think every fandom has a lot of slash. LotR is rife with it, actually, although I've read very little (i.e. less than five) fics in that fandom. And actually, none at all in the HP fandom. You can always stay away from what you don't like, esp. in a bigger fandom.
no subject
I have read some (not very good-ok, horrible) LoTR slash, and some HP slash. The last I read was Harry, Fred and George. Maybe I was going down a very windy path I should not have been on.
There are things I naturally stay away from, like pairings I can't stand. (K*** and everyone). Snape/anyone might fall into that category.
no subject
Snape should be shipped with Lily, or at least he really wanted to be. None of the other Snape ships make much sense to me. In fact, I don't get all the Snape love in fandom, but I suspect Allan Rickman has something to do with all that.
It's sort of like how nobody in RH would have paid any attention to Guy of Gisborne if Richard Armitage wasn't Teh Hawt! ;)
no subject
I think Rickman has everything to do with that. Brilliant as the Sheriff, brilliant as Snape. He can play just gleefully evil or nastily evil and I love it.
I passed on RH as too cheesy until Turk Flu. Then saw Guy and his menacing sniff and stopped cold. And lo, a fangirl was born.

Question, if you don't mind answering...what was it about Sirius you didn't like?
no subject
In all honesty, it's not so much that I don't like Sirius as I don't understand why everyone else loves him so much.
I think there's an interesting (and very tragic) side to his story, but he never grew on me. I didn't find him very mature or responsible, and the more I learned about him, the less I liked him.
For example, there's his attempted prank on Snape, i.e. sending him to the Shack when Remus is transforming there. Imagine if that prank had come to fruition! Sirius may not have cared for Snape, but Remus is supposed to be his friend, and he didn't have any qualms about doing such a thing to his friend.
no subject
My thoughts on the prank are different, but it's probably just my ficcish desire to make it deeper and more complex than it really was. ;) I got into the whole psychology of it in one of my fics, figuring that was the best way to represent Sirius as I prefer to interpret him.

I don't know if you know this, but your R/T fic was one of the first I ever read. I think it was written before the ship became canon, but I loved the insight into both characters in that story, and that's sort of what drew me into the fandom when I was just kind of hanging around its edges for the most part.
no subject
LOL No, it isn't. And apart from perhaps finding the R/S shipper zeal amusing, I don't think he would have said what they wanted to hear.
I don't know if you know this, but your R/T fic was one of the first I ever read.
No, I did not know that. Which story are you referring to?
I loved the insight into both characters in that story, and that's sort of what drew me into the fandom when I was just kind of hanging around its edges for the most part.
I'm not sure which story you mean yet, but it doesn't matter. Thank you. What a nice thing to say. ♥

As you say, not all of us. Some of us have been very supportive of fanon (R/S) and canon (R/T). :)
no subject
And yes, you've been lovely and supportive of R/T, and I love you more for it. Thank you.
Did I ever tell you about the R/S fan who PM'd me (me, who at the time had written exactly one R/T fic) to tell me that R/T was gross and how dare I consider even writing Lupin in a het ship? That's when I realized there really were a lot of wingnuts in the HP fandom, lol.
no subject
I think that PMing as you've described is rude and I'm sorry that you were on the receiving end of that -- knowing incidents like that exist are what drive me out of fandom. There is enough in fandom that if one thing is not for you, there is something that is. I think people go looking to stir up trouble, and to that end, I'd reiterate that wasn't my intent here in your thread, which I hope you always know is true for me when we interact.
I genuinely find your R/T one of the best I've read, discovering you first in at meta challenge in 2007 and I'd read yours still, if I still read in (any) fandom.
no subject
You never have to worry about me taking things negatively, or worrying about trouble being stirred up. If I thought you were really being negative, I probably just wouldn't engage...you know?
I find there's a lot of negativity in fandom generally, and it's worse in very big fandoms like HP and LotR. Long ago, I gave up on ever finding more than 3-4 people (you know who you are) that saw LotR as I did, and that's partly what motivated my semi-withdrawal from that fandom.
And well, there were too many BNFs, and I wasn't one of them, lol.

I like Guy but I think it's because he's played by RA that I like him. If he weren't played by RA, I probably would hate his guts.
Oh I love Sirius (as you well know). I'm still angry about that. And yeah, Dumbly was my favourite from the beginning. Same with Faramir in LOTR, hehe! Gawd, I think Faramir/Eowyn are my OTP forever. And Eomer! *loves*
I do like Snape, though I went off and on with him through the series. I had a feeling he was a jerk but really deep down was good. And that's what he ended up being. I also hearted Lupin though I always wished they got someone else to play him in the movies. Mainly because David Thewlis didn't fit my mental image of Lupin.
But yeah, not surprised on any of your responses :D
no subject
Ieuw. Did people actually ship those two?
You don't like Much anymore? Why is that?
Much ended up growing on me. I didn't really care for him for most of the first series, but then I ended up shipping him and Djaq in series 2...and the rest is history.
no subject
and I note you also like Djaq. very good taste.
