Alabama city to destroy Indian mound for retail store

That's right, folks. They're going to destroy a place of archaelogical/anthropological/spiritual importance...to build a Sam's Club.

The revised bill allows husbands to starve their wives if the women deny their husbands sexual favors. Afghan laws are typically made of several types of fail, but this is fail of epic proportions, even by those standards.

Gawd, the world just gets more effed up everyday.

The last line of the article kind of sums it up, I think:

Hm. More prettier? Wonderful. In the face of such vision and intelligence, what else should we expect? ::rolls eyes::

Isn't progress great? Why should we mind kissing 1500 years of human history goodbye when we can replace it with something so much more prettier like a Sam's Club? My son is fond of calling Walmart a soul-sucking black hole. I think I'm inclined to agree.

And you know what? I've never seen a neighborhood become "prettier" because of the addition of a concrete bunker-like storefront. *sigh* It's just so shortsighted, I can't stand it.
